Access To Wii U Nintendo Network Will Be Free

During a shareholder’s meeting, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the online network for Wii U will be free to use. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection – for Nintendo DS and Wii – has always provided free online play, so it’s not too surprising that Wii U’s Nintendo Network will also provide online connectivity at no extra charge.

Rhythm Thief Developer Would Like To Make A Wii U Version And 3DS Sequel

Shun Nakamura, the producer behind the well-received Rhythm Thief and The Emperor’s Treasure has stated that he would like wo make a Wii U version of the game, along with a sequel for the Nintendo 3DS. The original Rhythm Thief and The Emperor’s Treasure for Nintendo 3DS received 76% on Metacritic.
“I would like to try on both consoles. I would especially like to create a virtual play version of the “Looting the Louvre” part because moving the body really fits into rhythm games. I have many things I would like to do for the game system and scenario. I think the sequel will exceed the original if I could realise exactly what I currently have in mind

GameStop has the refurbished Nintendo Wii console for $79.99

GameStop has the refurbished Nintendo Wii console for $79.99, plus $4.99 for shipping (and not including sales tax, where applicable). Of course, Nintendo's next-generation Wii U console is just around the corner, expected to arrive in time for the holidays. This raises the question: Is the original Wii a good buy, even at $80?
It remains a great source of entertainment. Kids love it, and it's still fun for parties, family game-night, and other gatherings.
What's more, not only is the console itself cheap, but so are the games and accessories. For example, you can pick up MLB Power Pros, widely regarded as one of the most entertaining baseball games for the Wii, for just $4.99. And Meritline sells a generic Wii Remote and Nunchuk for $15.99 -- items that previously would have cost you $50.
In other words, you can trick out your Wii for considerably less money, especially if you troll the likes of Craigslist and eBay for used games and such.
So I'll throw it out to you, readers: Is the Wii a good deal at $80? Or has the sun set on this particular console? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Activision Publishing And Disney Interactive Announce Collaboration To Create Wreck-it Ralph Video Game

Get ready for classic arcade video game action with a whole new modern look and feel as Activision  and Disney Interactive today announced a collaboration  to produce and distribute a Wreck-It Ralph™ video game. As a story extension to the highly anticipated upcoming blockbuster film of the same name from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the Wreck-It Ralph video game is set to inspire a whole new generation of young gamers as a classic, arcade-style side scroller featuring Ralph – the misunderstood villain of his own arcade game who sets out to prove he can be a hero too.  Debuting this fall tied to the movie release, Wreck-It Ralph will bring all the fun from the big screen right into the living room for the Wii™ system from Nintendo, and the Nintendo 3DS™ and Nintendo DS™ hand-held systems.
"Wreck-It Ralph, as a brand entity, is perfectly suited for video game stardom," said David Oxford, Executive Vice President, Activision Publishing.  "With the fantastic characters and creative atmosphere envisioned by Walt Disney Animation Studios, we know fans are going to love seeing their newfound favorite characters embark on an all-new side scrolling adventure."
From the mind of Director Rich Moore ("The Simpsons," "Futurama"), the film chronicles the journey of Ralph, the bad guy in an arcade game who sets out to prove he can be the hero after all.  However Ralph mistakenly reverts to his clumsy nature and "wrecks" everything once again, unleashing a deadly enemy threat onto his video game neighbors.  The movie hits theaters on November 2, 2012 and features an all-star voice cast, including John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch.
The game picks up where the movie leaves off as Ralph partners with Fix-It Felix and sets out to save their friends and home from a huge Cy-Bug invasion.  Pounding through all-new levels in the "Wreck-It Ralph"universe, like Sugar Rush, Hero's Duty, and Fix-It Felix, Jr., players will have to use Ralph's destructive strength to beat by the Cy-Bugs, while switching back to Felix to repair the damage.  With story campaign and two-player co-op on the Wii platform, players can switch between Ralph and Felix to solve action-packed puzzles and collect "Hero Medals".
For more information, please visit www.activision.com.  For any questions on the upcoming feature film, please visit www.disneyanimation.com.  This game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

Project X Zone Will Feature A Massive 200+ Characters

Capcom has announced that its all-star beat-em-up Project X Zone will feature over two hundred characters. This staggering number refers to a combination of allies and enemies, and it doesn’t even account for event scene-only characters. The game is being worked on by Capcom, Namco Bandai, Monolith Soft, and Sega, and will feature a number of the respective development teams mascots.

Club Nintendo 3DS Game Card Case Unlikely to Come Back in Stock

Those of you wanting the popular reward may be out of luck.
Club Nintendo's 3DS/DS 18 Game Card Case might never come back in stock, as reported by Nintendo Consumer Support Advisor Marc Boese.
The news was obtained when GoNintendo reader Whatami asked when future shipments could be expected, which led to the following response:
"Thanks for contacting us about the Nintendo DS/3DS 18 Game Card Case. Please note that this reward was produced in limited quantities, so it is unlikely that we’ll be getting more in stock. I will, however, document your interest in this particular reward on the record of feedback for this item. If additional supplies become available again in the future, we’ll be sure to update the Rewards section of Club Nintendo (https://club.nintendo.com/rewards.do). Since we'll be unable to alert you if this happens, we ask that you check back periodically."
There is no word on whether similar rewards may be equally as limited in quantity.

During a recent interview, Shigeru Miyamoto was asked about what he thinks about Nintendo’s competitors. Miyamoto found it interesting how competitors are taking ideasfrom Wii U only a year after it was revealed because – after the initial releases of Nintendo DS and Wii – it took companies a few years to bring their own gaming devices with touchscreen control or motion control to the market. Miyamoto believes that it is better not to focus on the competition during E3 and, instead, developers should focus on “bringing fun to the world.”
“In the past when we’ve introduced stuff like motion control or touch screen control with the Nintendo DS, it typically would take a few years for other companies bring them into their own offerings. The fact that one year out when we first introduced the concept of Wii U, we’re already seeing other companies trying to move in that same direction, suggests there’s a tremendous amount of possibility in what we’ve shown so far.”
“It’s something that’s tough for me to objectively look at, and I think to me, what’s most important, is that I don’t betray the trust that people have in me. At a show like this, it’s my job to show we’re all having fun. People come to E3 and they want to talk about competition and who won the show, and all these companies combating one another.
“But what we’re meant to be doing is bringing fun to the world. So rather than focusing on competition, I feel it’s my job to go up on stage and show how I can bring fun to the world by having fun myself.”

Amazon.co.uk recently listed the Wii U console for £199.99, which made the console jump to the top of the “Bestsellers in PC & Video Games” list on the website. The Wii U is the top preordered item from ShopTo, which is currently pricing the Wii U at £279.85. Amazon.co.uk already removed their price tag of the Wii U console – did you place a preorder while it was priced at £199.99?

Play Your Downloaded Wii U Games On Any Wii U Console?

Cindy Gordon, the vice-president of corporate affairs at Nintendo of America, was interviewed by GeekMom during last week’s E3. During the interview, Gordon reconfirmed that every Wii U and Nintendo 3DS packaged game will be available as adownloadable title from the Nintendo eShop.
GeekMom asked whether Wii U users can play their downloaded games on someone else’s Wii U and Gordon replied by saying, “You’ll have an account system so you’ll be able to access your account anywhere.” Does this mean we’ll be able to play all of our downloaded games on anyone’s Wii U console?
GeekMom: Can you download a game right away when you see it on your Miiverse? Will you still have physical games too then?
Cindy Gordon: Yes. What we said is that every game for the Wii U, and this is true for the Nintendo 3DS too, will be available in both packaged as well as digital. It’s really about choice. What I remember as a parent, I prefer the download because I won’t lose the disk. But some people thrive on [having the physical game], to each his own.
GeekMom: Is there a way you can play your games on another Nintendo, for example if I go to my parents’ house and want to play on their console?
Cindy Gordon: You’ll have an account system so you’ll be able to access your account anywhere.

Nyko Offers A More Attractive Circle Pad Pro

Since Nintendo announced that they are not working on a revised Nintendo 3DS, perhaps it’s time to invest in a Circle Pad Pro. Nyko revealed their version of the Circle Pad Pro, which is called the Power Grip Pro. Not only is the Power Grip Pro more appealing than Nintendo’s Circle Pad Pro, it fully protects the Nintendo 3DS and provides an extended battery that promises longer play time. Nyko’s Power Grip Pro will be $30, while Nintendo’s Circle Pad Pro is $20.
Play with expanded controls and an expanded battery with Nyko’s Power Grip Pro for Nintendo 3DS. The Power Grip Pro adds an additional analog control pad to your 3DS, compatible with all games made for the Circle Pad Pro™. In addition to the added analog control, the Power Grip Pro works in conjunction with the existing 3DS battery providing up to 3x the play time making it perfect for long road trips, cross country flights or marathon gaming sessions at home.

Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime: Wii U GamePad won't feature multi-touch

Nintendo's Reggie FilsAime Wii U GamePad won't feature multitouch
The Wii U's 6.2-inch killer feature might look a whole lot like a tablet, but prospective buyers shouldn't expect it to function like one at all. In a recent interview with Kotaku, NOA prexy Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that multi-touch capabilities will indeed be purposefully absent from the upcoming GamePad. It's a puzzling omission for sure, but not one made lightly on Nintendo's part. According to Fils-Aime, the existence of hardware buttons on the controller itself render that full-blown slate functionality redundant, not to mention cost-prohibitive and "unwieldy." So you see, the Big N giveth and the Big N taketh away, but all in the name of user convenience. You can check out the full blow-by-blow with the House that Mario built's American keeper at the source link below.

Nintendo Is Working On 3DS Successor, And Not A 3DS Revision

Shigeru Miyamoto has told IGN that Nintendo is extremely happy with the Nintendo 3DS’ form factor, and that we shouldn’t expect a revision anytime soon. Miyamoto went on to say that Nintendo isn’t developing a revised console as The Nikkei reported, but they are looking to the future and their next handheld games console.

“I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it’s the best for this generation. What we’re thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld.”

Turtle Beach Headsets Coming Soon For Wii U And 3DS

Headset designer Turtle Beach has announced a partnership with Nintendo to develop officially licensed gaming headsets for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. The headsets will be compatible with Wii U, 3DS and even the DS family of systems, with voice chat support for Wii U.
No price is given for these headsets, aside from a mention of being competitive. Turtle Beach is known for providing high-quality headsets for game consoles.

urtle Beach Announces Agreement With Nintendo To Develop Officially Licensed Headsets For Wii U and Nintendo 3DS

Turtle Beach, pioneers and market-leaders of the gaming headset category, today announce an agreement with Nintendo, worldwide pioneer in the creation of interactive entertainment, for an officially licensed line of Wii U™ gaming headsets in anticipation of the new console.
Under the agreement, Turtle Beach will produce a line of licensed headsets for Nintendo's Wii U™ with built-in chat functionality. These proposed headsets will also be compatible with portable devices such as the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system and the Nintendo DS™ hand-held system. Based on its legacy of audio supremacy, Turtle Beach will aim to provide Wii U™ gamers with a series of solid entry level headsets at competitive price points.

Wii U To Have Up To 12 User Accounts

The NIntendo Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Charlie Scibetta, was recently interviewed by GameTrailers and said that Nintendo is done with friend codes. Scibetta also revealed that up to 12 user accounts can be made on a Wii U console.
“Nintendo’s take on online gaming is Miiverse, and it’s a way to be social and to discover things online. You can certainly do multiplayer online, but we’re really focusing on community and sharing and discovery because that’s something that’s new and unique and fun, we think, that Nintendo’s uniquely qualified to bring. There’s actually twelve different accounts you can have on any one piece of hardware, so if you have a different account from me, you might have different games featured on there, different friends and when you turn on the Wii U it can immediately go to your profile and then you’ll have an experience that’s tailor made for you.”

Satoru Iwata Reveals Minimum Wii U Price

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told Bloomberg that Wii U will “likely be priced at more than 20,000 yen”. Roughly translated that’s around $250, so it’s likely that the system will retail in North America for $300 or more. Nintendo has already said that it won’t reveal pricing or a release date until a later date.

Wii U Screen Isn’t Multitouch

Nintendo has confirmed on Game Trailers that the Wii U touchscreen isn’t multitouch due to costs. Nintendo believes the Nintendo DS screen was adequate enough for gamers, and they believe the same for the Wii U GamePad controller. Charlie Scibetta says that Nintendo is trying to strike the right balance between the robust set of features and capabilities for the hardware, but also make it affordable to people.

Nintendo Considering Pre-Installed Software For Wii U

Nintendo announced at the E3 Nintendo analyst meeting that it’s seriously considering including pre-installed software with Wii U in certain markets. Many were expectingNintendo Land to be a bundled game, but it seems as though it may be a fully fledged retail title.

By moving the GamePad up, down, left or right, you can look around at all your surroundings and feel like you’re really experiencing these locations in person. You control the viewer’s perspective, making it feel as though you’ve been transported directly to the center of the video’s destination.”

Nintendo takes wraps off video-enabled 'Wii U'

Wii U

Nintendo Co. Ltd took the wraps off the successor to its groundbreaking Wii gaming console on Tuesday, announcing the "Wii U" will carry video content from Netflix Inc, Amazon.com Inc, Google Inc's YouTube and Hulu.

The company also unveiled a native version of its venerable "Super Mario" game.

The Wii U, which Nintendo hopes will help it regain its perch at the pinnacle of gaming industry hardware, comes in time for the holidays and can support two "GamePad" tablet-like controllers.

LEGO CITY STORIES TRAILER

Lego City Stories was announced as an exclusive for Nintendo’s consoles during last year’s E3. The game is being developed by TT Games and Nintendo and will release for Wii U. Another version of the game will be released for Nintendo 3DS after the Wii U version.

Nintendo Land Wii U

Nintendo Land is a fun and lively theme park filled with 12 different attractions, each with its own take on a Nintendo franchise. Each attraction features unique and innovative game-play experiences made possible by the Wii U GamePad controller. Depending on the attraction, players can compete solo or against other players, or even team up to play cooperatively. Up to five players can participate in dynamic multiplayer modes in select attractions. The experiences change every time, depending on whether players are using the GamePad, holding a Wii Remote or just watching others play on the TV screen.
  • Donkey Kong’s Crash Course: Using the GamePad’s motion control, players tilt the controller to guide a fragile rolling cart through an obstacle course that resembles the original Donkey Kong arcade game. This single-player game lets other spectators watch the action on the TV and offer advice about how to pass the next obstacle.
  • Luigi’s Ghost Mansion: The player with the GamePad is a ghost (invisible to others) who is trying to capture up to four humans armed with flashlights. The ghost must sneak around the environment by staying in the shadows and try to catch them one by one. The humans can work together to revive fallen comrades before the ghost catches everyone. If all four humans are caught before they are revived, the ghost wins. But if they are successful at shining their flashlights on the ghost long enough to reduce its hit points to zero, the humans win.
  • Animal Crossing™: Sweet Day: The player holding the Wii U GamePad controls two guards who are in charge of safeguarding a candy orchard from a group of candy-loving animals. Up to four other players, using the Wii Remote controllers to control these animals, must work together to outwit – and outrun – the guards. The game ends when a combined total of 50 pieces of candy are collected, or when the guards catch any one of the animals three times.
  • The Legend of Zelda™: Battle Quest: The player with the GamePad is an archer who can aim and shoot arrows using the screen as a view finder. That player is joined by up to three others who wield Wii Remote Plus controllers like swords. Players work together to take on a variety of enemies in a world that looks like a cloth version of a game from The Legend of Zelda series.
  • Takamaru’s Ninja Castle: Based on an early Famicom game available only in Japan, this single-player game turns the GamePad into a launcher for ninja stars. Players swipe the controller’s touch screen to take out an ever-growing army of ninja attackers, earning more points for consecutive hits. Moving the GamePad around at different angles enables the player to take aim in an intuitive fashion.

The game actually supports five players, but sadly you can only use one Wii U GamePad with the machine. The other four controllers are actually Wii Remotes.

Code Of Princess Heading To Nintendo 3DS In North America

Atlus has revealed via a press release their North American publishing plans for Code of Princess, an action RPG brawler for Nintendo 3DS with cooperative and competitive multiplayer.
Slated for release this fall, Code of Princess offers players an exciting yet unconventional hardcore experience, deftly blending fighting gameplay with components from classic arcade side-scrolling beat ‘em ups and the character development and customization of an RPG. Up to four players can take on challenges cooperatively or battle against one another in competitive play. Both modes are available locally or online via Nintendo Network.

Nintendo 3DS XL with 4.3-inch 3D for E3 ?

Nintendo is reportedly readying an oversized version of the 3DS glasses-free 3D handheld, potentially the Nintendo 3DS XL, with a bigger display for launch at E3 2012 this week. The new version, so Japanese paper Nikkei claims, will use a 4.3-inch display rather than the 3.53-inch panel of the existing model.
Specifications beyond that are unclear, and it’s not certain whether Nintendo will be changing any other specifications of the 3DS bar screen size. It’s also unstated as to whether both top and bottom screens will be upscaled, or if only the stereoscopic 3D panel will be boosted.
Nintendo has a track-record of supersizing its gaming handhelds, with the Nintendo DSi XL being a scaled-up iteration of the original DSi. The Japanese company billed it as ideal for older gamers keen to get involved in the “brain-training” titles fashionable at the time.
The news would be only part of Nintendo’s E3 announcements this week. Over the weekend, Nintendo revealed a slight redesign of the Wii U tablet, along with a new Wii U Pro Controller and the soci

Gearbox: Nintendo Has Listened To Wii U Feedback & Controller Specs Will “Be Awesome”

Gearbox Software art director Brian Cozzens has told Nintendo Gamer that Nintendo has listened to developer feedback regarding Wii U, which suggests that we will hear about some of these changes during the Nintendo Direct presentation tonight. Cozzens also went on to say that “we’ll see some cool stuff that we’ve had some influence over” and that the “final controller specs are going to be awesome.”

“We were early in seeing what was happening with the Wii U and we’ve been able to give some feedback. They’ve listened, and I think we’ll see some cool stuff that we’ve had some influence over. I think the final controller specs are going to be awesome.”
