Nintendo COO Reggie Fils-Aime will be on hand to discuss the future of the console and explain some of the other features that the Wii's successor will be packing in.

Go for Gold in New Super Mario Bros. 2 on Nintendo 3DS From the 17th of August!

Boxshot: New Super Mario Bros. 2 by Nintendo of America

New Coin Rush mode and classic platform action herald the return of Mario and Luigi

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 08/15/12 -- Fans of side-scrolling Mario games are in for a golden summer when New Super Mario Bros. 2 launches for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL on 17th August. Princess Peach is in peril again and it's up to Mario and Luigi to rescue her - but this time the Mushroom Kingdom is bursting with more gold coins than ever for you to collect! With the help of new power-ups, items and all manner of things turning to gold in a variety of game modes, it will be a fun but tricky test for even the most seasoned Mario fans to reach the ultimate goal of collecting one million coins.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is the first traditional side-scrolling Mario game to be made especially for the Nintendo 3DS system. With over 80 brand new courses full of hidden areas and secrets to discover, it's a classic Mario game with some major golden differences. For the first time in the series you are tasked with collecting a staggering one million coins. Thankfully, there are three new gold-themed elements to help you along the way.
The first new element is the Gold Flower power-up that turns Mario into Gold Mario. This grants you the ability to shoot Gold Fireballs that turn enemies and blocks into coins. Secondly, Mario fans who are quick enough can turn 10-Coin Blocks into special Gold Blocks. Mario can then wear the Gold Block over his head and will be rewarded with a steady stream of coins while he runs and until the power runs out. Finally, if you spot a Gold Ring within a course and are skilful enough to jump through it, all the enemies on screen will become gold versions of themselves. They'll release additional coins in their own unique way - and will yield even more when you defeat them.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 also retains some classic elements that Mario fans will love. The Super Leaf power-up that turns Mario into the fan-favourite Raccoon Mario from the NES classic Super Mario Bros. 3, returns to allow Mario to fly for brief periods of time. Mario can also float in mid-air and attack blocks and enemies by using the powerful Tail Swipe move.
For the first time in a Super Mario game on a handheld system, the entire adventure is playable in Co-op Play. You and a friend - each with a Nintendo 3DS system and a copy of the game - can play as Mario and Luigi to try to rescue the princess. To help you there are three special co-op moves to master as you take on each of the courses together. Any coins collected in Co-op Play will count for both players, so get a friend to help you out on your journey to the big one million!
The new Coin Rush mode - where the aim is to collect as many coins as possible without failing once - will certainly get your competitive juices flowing. Race across three randomly selected courses with care, as you only have one life - but be quick as well, as the time left at the end of the course is transferred into coins. Your results will be stored and ultimately shared as challenges with the people you meet via StreetPass, so you can attempt to beat each other's scores. The competitive and collaborative elements of the Coin Rush and Co-op Play modes are certain to keep you coming back for more long after you have rescued Princess Peach.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is available in Europe on 17th August as a traditional packaged copy at retail and for the first time simultaneously as a digital download from Nintendo eShop. Download the game to your Nintendo 3DS system and Mario will always stay tucked in your pocket! This game has elements that will appeal to new and traditional Mario fans alike, challenging you in a way that keeps you coming back for more. The gold rush is on, so team up with your friends to try and collect a million gold coins!
