Iwata 'No Further 3DS Price Drops, Holding Back Software

In a Q&A session following a recent investor briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata implied that it would not be repeating this year's significant 3DS price cut in the near future, and admitted to holding back some completed 3DS software for release after the busy holiday season.

In a Q&A session following a recent investor briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata implied that it would not be repeating this year's significant 3DS price cut in the near future, and admitted to holding back some completed 3DS software for release after the busy holiday season.
Looking forward to the 2013 fiscal year, however, the Nintendo president said the company was "not anticipating a situation where we must expand the hardware by generating a large loss on the sales of the hardware," implying that a similar price drop would not be necessary in the near future.

"During the fiscal year ending March 2013, we are expecting the profitability of Nintendo 3DS hardware to improve significantly," he said. "As long as we can create sufficient momentum, I think we will be able to come close to our usual course of business operations in the next fiscal year."

Elsewhere in the Q&A session, Iwata said the company was intentionally holding back some completed 3DS software to avoid limiting its impact during the crowded holiday season.

"Video games need to stay fresh, so it is not practical for us to put them on hold for too long, but we think that some of them may be held for a certain amount of time so that there will be a short interval between when they are completed and when they are launched," he said.

For 3DS software specifically, Iwata said the holiday season was "so dense that, if we added any more software, the total sales would not increase. Accordingly, we have intentionally delayed the launch of some software titles to early next year."

Following upcoming holiday season releases for Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7, Nintendo has announced Kid Icarus: Uprising, Luigi's Mansion 2, Paper Mario and Animal Crossing 3DS titles for some time next year.

Nintendo rumoured to be working on micro-transaction firmware update for 3DS

Reports have emerged in Japan's biggest newspaper Nikkei that Nintendo is considering introducing an in-game purchasing model for the 3DS.

Nintendo's digital downloads are currently accounting for less than 5 percent of its total sales figures, something which is not the case for other Japanese games makers.

The report indicates that a firmware update could arrive as early as next month, allowing developers to start integrating micro-transactions into their titles, but the first games to use this feature aren't expected to arrive until 2012.

Mario Kart 7 Steering Wheel for Nintendo 3DS

It's no secret that Mario Kart 7 is due out in December, but it now appears that a certain 3DS-compatible steering wheel from Hori will be too. According to Andriasang, Amazon's Japanese site listed the peripheral sans photos, pricing it at a cool ¥1,280 (about $17). Not long after that the blog snagged a few press shots of said unit, which looks like a odd blend of the iPhone-oriented Helix grip and Nintendo's own Wii Wheel. The attachment is said to feature tweaked shoulder triggers and Nintendo's Official Seal of Approval, but won't score you extra SlidePad functionality.

NINTENDO CHALLENGES KIDS TO DISCOVER THEIR OWN SUPER ABILITIES

Nintendo wants to inspire kids across North America to discover their inner superheroes with some help from the iconic Kirby™ video game character. Starting today, kids who visit http://kirby.nintendo.com/superability will be invited to create drawings and descriptions of their dream Super Abilities, taking inspiration from Kirby's Super Abilities in the new Kirby's Return to Dream Land™ game for the Wii™ system. Their imaginative creations can be submitted to Nintendo and may be featured as part of a project to aid Starlight Children's Foundation™.

Launching exclusively for the Wii console on Oct. 24, Kirby's Return to Dream Land features five new Super Abilities that are activated when the heroic Kirby inhales special enemy characters. For example, the Flare Beam Super Ability allows Kirby to deploy a ball of energy that can wipe out an entire screen's worth of foes. Visitors to the site at http://kirby.nintendo.com/superability can download a Kirby coloring sheet and come up with their own Super Ability that they would use to help others. For added inspiration, kids can visit The Stacks at http://scholastic.com/stacks and take a "What's Your Super Ability?" quiz. Participants can answer questions to determine which of the Super Abilities featured in Kirby's Return to Dream Land would suit them best.

Kids' completed Super Ability coloring sheets can be submitted via mail, email or fax. Nintendo and Scholastic will post select submissions to a virtual gallery on the Nintendo site, and some submissions will be featured at a special Oct. 27 unveiling at Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach in Long Beach, Calif., to celebrate Nintendo's sponsorship of an interactive Starlight Fun Center™ mobile entertainment unit. Patients at the hospital will also be invited to use coloring sheets to create their own Super Abilities. Both Nintendo and Scholastic are dedicated to raising awareness about Starlight by encouraging children to help others.

Nintendo Wii POTIONS, LAKES AND LINK'S WHIP AMONG REVEALED ELEMENTS IN THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD

Nintendo has revealed another set of details about the fascinating areas, items and game play in the upcoming The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword game,
Lake Floria and the Parella Tribe: Later in his quest, Link must make his way to an as-yet-undiscovered section of the Faron Woods that is home to Lake Floria. The lake is inhabited by the squid-like Parella tribe, which makes its first appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Even when revisiting past areas like Faron Woods, players will make new discoveries and, occasionally, find drastic changes to the environment that require them to explore these areas in entirely different ways.

Swimming: As one might expect, getting to and exploring Lake Floria requires Link to swim. The intuitive motion control of the Wii Remote Plus gives players a natural way to control Link as he swims across the lake's surface or into its watery depths.

Insects and Potions: Throughout the game, Link travels back and forth between the surface and Skyloft. Players can collect bugs in the various areas they visit, and these insects can be used to infuse new ingredients into the variety of different potions available for purchase at the bazaar in Skyloft, giving the potions powerful new effects. Players can experiment with different potions and insects to find the concoctions that best meet their needs.

Fun Fun Island: Also new in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is Fun Fun Island, one of the small islands that float above the clouds near Link's hometown. As the name suggests, there's a lot of fun to be had there, but before Link can enjoy everything the island has to offer, he must find a way to fulfill the request of its lone inhabitant.

Whip: Players can use the Wii Remote Plus to lash Link's whip at enemies and objects. The whip also can be used to grab items and is integral to solving certain puzzles. Link's items can be selected in real time without pausing the game when he is on the ground, making it easier to switch between a sword and other items.

CAPTAIN MORGANE AND THE GOLDEN TURTLE UK LAUNCH MOVES TO FEBRUARY 2012

Reef Entertainment and Wizarbox have announced that the UK launch of Captain Morgane and the Golden Turtle on PS3, PC, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS has been put back to 3 rd February 2012.
The reason for the reschedule came from focus group and fan feedback received during the build up to the Q4 2011 launch.
Craig Lewis, Commercial Director of Reef Entertainment said; “This is a very important launch for Reef Entertainment and we wanted to ensure that the game would meet the expectations of ‘So Blonde’ fans and new customers alike. However, following the feedback from fans and from our focus groups, we found there were a number of issues, including areas of the English voice acting, which needed to be addressed. We’ve therefore taken the decision to revise the game and as a consequence the UK launch has been rescheduled. But we’re pleased to announce that we’re on course for the Q4 2011 launch in France and Italy, with the remaining European markets following shortly afterwards. We’d like to thank everyone for their feedback and comments and we look forward to the launch in February 2012

Tales of the Abyss 3DS Screenshots

Tales of the Abyss will be released on the 14th of February in 2012. Tales of the Abyss for the Nintendo 3DS is aimed at offering mobile gamers the grand adventure that was so popular on Sony’s home console. Prepping for a 2012 release, The hook of the game lies in its active real-time battle system, allowing players to move about and give commands on the fly using the updated “Flex Range Linear Motion Battle System”. It’s a little unfortunate we don’t get this kind of evolution in other (J)RPGs within the genre, but maybe that might all change with Tales of Grace F for the Sony PlayStation 3.

Ninja Gaiden Being Developed Independently for the Wii U

Speaking with VG24/7 about their progress developing Ninja Gaiden 3 for Nintendo’s new console, Team Ninja indicated that it would not be “developed in parallel” with the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions. In fact, Peter Garza of Tecmo Koei confidently stated that the team is pushing the console “as hard as they can.”
… we really wanted to use whatever hardware we were on, we want to use to its full potential and really push that. Not just in spec, but the features that make that hardware unique. So for right now with Wii U, we’re just starting to know what Wii U is and how we can make it fun."

Some analyst says Wii U is not a 'next generation' console

Michael Pachter said in an interview published yesterday with Industry Gamers.
"The Wii U is a pretty ambitious undertaking," Pachter told Industry Gamers. "It's a new console, with new controls and architecture, but it's not quite 'next' generation. Developers have to contend with differences between the Wii U and current generation consoles, then have to figure out what to do with the controls."
According to Pachter, the Wii U will be home to "no significant third-party 'exclusives,'" and instead, will simply get games from developers that are ported from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Nintendo's decision to release a new console next year is somewhat of a surprise, since the company's competitors are reportedly not planning to release new hardware until 2014--when, some believe, the true "next generation" will begin.
The issue for Nintendo is that the company's current-generation device, the Wii, is behind the curve. Although the console has sold extremely well over the years, it lacks HD graphics and the graphical sophistication to compete visually with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. With the Wii U, Nintendo is addressing that problem with HD graphics and better internal components, but there is some fear that the device's visuals will only match those of the consoles already on the market. I know people out there don't know there more to video game then just graphic look at Angry Birds. This is just one person also alot of these so called analyst said the same about the wii and that did really well.

Once again, hosts John Anderson and John Henson narrate the out-of-control action.
"In working so closely with ABC, we've been able to make sure that the videogame series stays true to the off-the-wall nature of the show," said Nicole Armstrong, Activision Publishing. "Families will be able to get their Wipeout fix day or night with Wipeout 2."
Wipeout 2 utilizes every platform's unique capabilities! Fire off paintballs or hurl snowballs to trip up your friends as they run the course on the PlayStation®3 or Xbox 360. Use the newly revised controls of the Wii version for a more intuitive and engaging experience than ever. Pass the Nintendo DS systems around for four-player "Hot Seat" gaming or take the experience to a whole new visual plane on the Nintendo 3DS. Whichever the console, whether alone or with friends, players are sure to have a wild time! Who says this can't be tried at home?
Wipeout 2 is now available on Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS, Wii, PlayStation Move and Kinect for Xbox 360. The Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS versions are rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. The Wii, PlayStation Move and Kinect for Xbox 360 versions are rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and older by the ESRB

Nintendo announces a peripheral

Nintendo today announced the next big 3DS peripheral the first official Nintendo headset for the handheld device. The device will be launching November 4th in Europe. A launch date for North America has not been announced and the devices retail cost is expected to be £24.99 with a suggested retail price of 29.99$ expected for the device upon release in North America.
The device was developed by PowerA the headset will offer features far more advanced then past handheld head sets. Like buttons for music selection the thing is with barely any MP3 capabilities what music will we use these buttons for? Another huge selling feature is full voice chat support, however with Mario Kart 7 being the first major Nintendo published title to feature online and no mention of voice chat capabilities. What good does that feature do? The only major feature that will be useful at the moment is volume control enabling you adjust the volume meaning you can use the head set like a set of headphones.

Nintendo Reveals Details About Faron Woods in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Wii

Faron Woods and Skyview Temple: The forest is the first location Link visits after leaving Skyloft, an island world suspended high in the sky. The people of Skyloft have never been to the surface, so this stage marks a strange new experience for Link. Traversing the forest leads him to Skyview Temple, where Zelda may be held.
-- Dashing: By holding down the A Button, players can make Link run faster and grant him acrobatic abilities, such as the ability to briefly run up a sheer wall to grab onto a cliff. Dashing uses up some of Link's endurance, which replenishes itself over time once Link stops running. Certain powerful attacks, like the spin attack, also use up endurance. When all of Link's endurance is used up, his movement is slowed dramatically for a few moments.
-- Dowsing: Fi, the spirit of the powerful Goddess Sword and Link's guide, informs Link that he can use the sword to search for things through dowsing. In dowsing mode, when Link holds out his sword, the sword will beep and provide visual feedback when pointed in the direction of the intended target. This technique can be used to search for many objects and characters in the game. In Faron Woods, Link uses it to search for Zelda, guiding him to Skyview Temple, where Zelda's aura can be detected.
-- Kikwi Tribe: The Kikwis are cute, fuzzy creatures that Link encounters while exploring the forest, resembling a kiwi fruit in animal form. Link can search for the Kikwis in the forest using dowsing. In return, they will help him on his search for Zelda.
-- Slingshot: This is one of the first items that Link receives in the game. While it's not very powerful, it can be used to stun enemies and activate objects in the environment. As with many items in the game, players aim the slingshot by moving the Wii Remote(TM) Plus.

Nintendo Tour Bus tops in Livonia, Mich. for a holiday preview

Nintendo Holiday Tour spent its day-long stop showing off some of the video game company’s most anticipated releases in the coming months.
Directed first to the Wii console, Representative Janine provided a demonstration of the special body movement controls that highlighted The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, expected to be released in November.
Also demonstrated on the Wii was Kirby, who stars in the October 24-slated Kirby’s Return to Dream Land. It will be the second titular game for the little puff of pink this season, also appearing in the Nintendo DS game Kirby Mass Attack, which was released on September 19.
The Nintendo 3DS games were the final draw of the day, with Tetris: Axis receiving a draw of high interest thanks to the inclusion of special game options such as “Fever” and “Survival,” the latter of which involves the columns rising up every time a row fails to be eliminated. Throw in “Mario Kart 7” and “Professor Layton and the Last Specter,” and the 3DS consoles remain a top draw thanks to new color tones like Cosmo Black and Flame Red.
Those with Wii preferences, however, are sure to be comforted by holiday bargains when the Nintendo Selects series releases several classics at lower prices such as $19.99.
Continuing its tour eastward, the Nintendo Holiday bus can only anticipate ongoing turnout and buy-ups as the season inches closer and closer, and fans can take the time to find out what they consider to be the perfect purchases through participation
